I have also written about theory of terminology, machine translation, and CAT tools, but my passion is the translation process itself.

training documentation on "Pharma Regulatory" a few years back, and I didn't deliver, I am sorry. I started on it, and then things happened in my life... But this wasn't my choice - business is more up my street. | | | neilmac Tây Ban Nha Local time: 15:38 Spanish to English + ...
None of the categories holds any immediate appeal for me. Muriel's choices sound interesting though.
I usually prefer a rant to a rationally-thought-out and reasoned argument or debate anyway, so some sort of grumpy old translator type blog would probably be the nearest I'd get to proper writing

Mythbusting and the Road to Translation | Feb 1, 2017 |
I wrote an article for the EMWA (European Medical Writers Association) journal around a year ago, on who makes a better medical translator - a medical professional who has turned to translation, or a translator who has specialised in medicine? Some very interesting points emerged, as well as aspects I hadn't considered. I am always fascinated by how people come to translation - there are so many myths regarding translation and it's interesting to challenge these. | | | Time management for freelance translators | Feb 1, 2017 |
I'm writing it, but only when I have time to do it.
The last thing I would want to write about is translation, I spend enough time doing it!

Intriguing... What myths?
Business issues - I still have to learn a lot
Negotiation - So many articles about this topic
Project management - from a freelance translator point of view? not enough to say
Term management - See above
Translation technologies / tools - Still have to learn a loto about it
Quality - Nice topic... here it is: Quality is not negotiable....

- The only thing I could write about is how to approach translations in my specialization field... but I am sorry I have no time to do that.
So when I write I write short stories, poems ... ▲ Collapse

Where is "the art"? | Feb 1, 2017 |
Obviously the asker has not read any of my actual work
I used to teach an advanced-level course in the art and craft of translation: what really makes a professional, practical considerations, tricks of the trade, dos and don'ts, etc. Students liked it. Ever since, I wanted to write a book on the same subject, but I don't have enough free time or extra money to publish it entirely on my own. | | | Publishing is easy now | Feb 1, 2017 |

Anton,
Publishing an e-book on Amazon nowadays is cheap and easy.
You could initially do the most expensive part of publishing a successful book - marketing - here on the Proz forums, where your target audience is, at no expense whatsoever.
Yet the time to write and revise is scarce for those who really know something worth reading about! | | | Helen Hagon Local time: 14:38 Thành viên kể từ 2011 Russian to English + ... History of translation | Feb 1, 2017 |
I would love to do some research and write about translation throughout history, from the Victorian missionaries in Africa who devised written forms of languages in order to translate the Bible, and literary translation 'legends' such as Constance Garnett, E V Rieu, etc., to St Jerome himself, and why he is our patron saint. I could write about the use, abuse and misuse of abbreviations, a topic that prompted me 20 years ago to start building a glossary, which by now is 285 pages long, maybe I’ll publish it one day… | | | Paul Dixon Braxin Local time: 11:38 Portuguese to English + ... My plan would be something for beginners, basic facts about the profession, marketing, CAT tools, events and the like. Or maybe a glossary in a specific area. | | | Kalinka Hristova Bulgaria Local time: 16:38 Thành viên kể từ 2007 English to Bulgarian + ... ĐIỀU PHỐI VIÊN
My topic would be Networking. Many translators (and even some interpreters) have problems establishing face-to-face contacts, so some tips on networking should be useful for them. | | | Các trang trong chủ đề: [1 2] > | To report site rules violations or get help, contact a site moderator: You can also contact site staff by submitting a support request » Poll: If you could write on a topic related to translation, which of these would it be?
