Reduce my work progressively so as to be able to retire - I don't feel able to tell my clients "stopping right now and sort it out as you can".

Get better clients.
The other day I was asked by a smallish agency client of mine how much "effort" I could agree to for an urgent banking project. My base rate with them is 0,10 euro (which is why I avoid them as much as I can). Do they know I'm not sitting around twiddling my thumbs till they send me one of their crappy jobs? Do they realise "urgent" automatically calls for a higher rate, rather than the opposite? Do they mind selling words by the kilo? Do they care?

I'd like to expand my client base, get away from (more of) the "I need it yesterday, but will pay in 30+ days" customers who have never heard of rush fees. And I'd like to find more clients who appreciate my type of service/my fields of expertise.
Guess I got up on the wrong foot this morning.

Better paying clients | Feb 3, 2017 |
I'm perfectly happy with the amount of clients I have, I'd just like to be able to up my rates.
I'd like to have more clients.. although I am always busy, but you know getting client who allow a higher rate and shorter payment terms....
but no I am happy with it...
Having my own agency... that would be a long term plan, for my kids... and maybe for me as well.. so I should not worry about not being able to type as fast as I can now....
But really I am so focused on working I do not even think about it

It's not so much about getting a larger amount of clients, but having clients that are worth working for --clients that are nice, pay acceptable rates and pay on time.

I have often thought about some of these options, and they may be in my future plans, like opening an agency, outsourcing, etc.
But my immediate objective is not in that list. Right now, I barely have any free time, but 30% of my jobs/clients/income is still in my home country, where the rates range from 40% to 60% of what I make abroad. So my first goal now is to get rid of local clients, replacing them with international clients. From 2013 to 2016, I was able to do that with 60% of my clients, moving from a 10%/90% international/local ratio to the current 70%/30%. But I want to make that 90%/10%, if I can. ▲ Collapse
