This forum topic is for the discussion of the poll question "If you are a member of a translation association, which is the best benefit in your opinion?".
I’m a member of several translation associations, but I can’t say what is the best benefit. Probably all of the above, though so far I haven’t benefitted from any discounts…

I was a member of the French SFT for a while. Their Saturday morning meetups were pleasant and sometimes useful. They sent us some useful advice during the pandemic. There were various training opportunities that I never got around to signing up for (too much admin involved).
I was hoping that I'd get work through being in the directory but I was only ever contacted once and the client went with someone cheaper.

1A) Events and camaraderie with said colleagues.
2) A smallish amount of work through the directory.
3) Access to events and continuing education at discounted rates.
4) I don't want to say it makes you "look professional" on your resume, but from the perspective of somebody reading your resume, why wouldn't you be a member of the relevant professional organizations?
