This forum topic is for the discussion of the poll question "How important are formal certifications (ATA, Degrees, etc) to your current business success?".
In my opinion, being certified is not a must in order to find jobs and it’s probably more important for a beginner translator to add visible credibility to his/hers profile. After 40 years in this profession, reputation is more important than any certification.

Formal certifications are helpful but untill now all my knowledge used in projects come from my hobbies.
