MemSource Cloud Cat Tool Người gửi thông tin lên tuyến đoạn: Silvia Francalanza

Hello dear colleagues,
I am considering MemSource Cloud as a Cat Tool. Has anyone tried it? Can you give me some feedback? Trados is expensive, difficult at the beginning, and space consuming on the computer, all collaborators must have it... what is your opinion on MemSource, it sounds interesting being web based...

I use it quite often, although my main CAT tool (and favourite) is Trados Studio. I wrote an article comparing the two last November:

Thank you Emma,
another question: if you were a first user of Cat tools, would you buy MemSource?
My impression is that it's easier, and less time-consuming for Learning. And less expensive, of course. What do you think? All collaborators can have easy access to it...
I have a sort of psychological barrier against Trados, it seems to be so complicated..

A new CAT user is faced with a huge choice of programs that weren't around when I started out. It's not just a choice between Studio and MemSource, as you probably know. I suggest you download the demo/free versions of these and other programs.

Re: your psychological barrier against Trados Studio. Well, it can be as simple or as complicated as you want to make it, like most other tools. Watching a beginner's video like this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w0rAA8baU_Y may help you get started. ▲ Collapse

Dear Silvia,
I personally think that memsource Editor is a great CAT-tool with an easy to learn workspace. Although it is less versatile than the big ones (e.g. memoQ, SDL Studio or Deja Vu), most of the translation assignments can be handled with it.

What is worth considering:
The unique thing in memsource is not the Editor, but the personal cloud behind it which allows you to reach your databases (TMs and glossaries) anywhere, share your databases with your colleagues and assign projects to other translators.
If you can exploit the advantage of the cloud (i.e. you travel a lot or delegate projects to freelancers), memsource gives you the most for your money.
If you usually work at home and alone, you won't use the full potential of this tool.

I always used Trados and sometimes MemoQ in my projects.
Recently, I had to use MemSource 3.1 in a specific project and it was love in the first sight.
It's a really light, easy-to-learn and easy-to-use CAT tool. Its possibilities are incredible comparing his size and simplicity. And its TM is completely compatible with Trados format (TMX). After finish your work, you can import it to your Trados TM without any problem. | | | A client was asking me yesterday to use it... | Oct 29, 2013 |
..but it was already quite late and at first I cursed myself for having accepted that project and having to install and get used to a new tool.
But I was surprised: I found it a nice, easy to use tool. It happens a lot in some other tools clients want me to use - it takes forever to double check and proofread texts and my eyes aren't getting any better, so I appreciate a well organized UI (mind that this has not so much to do with how big you can choose your fonts within a program). ▲ Collapse

Hi, Silvia. I don't know exactly what you mean with problems of compatibility. If you mean problems with other programs after installing MemSource, I had no problema at all.
If you refer to its TM compatibility, MemSource export its TM in TMX format, which can be easily imported by Trados in seconds.
But MemSource does not open bilingual files created by another CAT Tool. I think no one does it. You have to upload the original file to MemSource server and then download... See more Hi, Silvia. Anna, I agree with you. I loved its interface. Clean and easy. It happened the same with me. I learned to use the editor and its server just while the client was sending me project After 15 minutes I was working as an old user.
And it has another benefit. As the client owns the server account, he creates your login to access the project and you don't have to pay anything in licences, because the editor is totally free... Well. Today, my best options are Trados and MemSource. ▲ Collapse | | | pcovs Đan Mạch Local time: 07:42 English to Danish Compatibility | Jun 11, 2014 |
So, one could actually perform the translation in e.g. Wordfast or Studio and then upload the exported TM (in TMX format) into the system and have Memsource do an automatic translation of everything once again, so that the client can have his/her preferred bilingual format and TM, and I can use my preferred (and known) tool?
That would be awsome! | |

If the client allows you to access the TM, yes... but I doubt they will! | | | Some features missing | Jun 11, 2014 |
Memsource is nice but last time I tried it, it was not uite as sophisticated as the "big ones" in the market. Using MemSource you will have to do without
- predictive typing (IMHO the biggest accomplishment CAT tools coame up with since years)
- a locally based TM: everything is in the cloud, which makes working offline next to impossible
Also the aligner is a bit too primitive. It performed well enough, but all you get it an Excel table with no possibility to join and ... See more Memsource is nice but last time I tried it, it was not uite as sophisticated as the "big ones" in the market. Using MemSource you will have to do without

But it's a fast enough environment, and hey, it can be used for free if you only need it on an occasional basis. ▲ Collapse | | | Không có điều phối viên nào được chỉ định riêng cho diễn đàn này.
