Unfortunately, very bad timing for me, everything happening overnight in my time zone - very hard to participate and network when one needs to wake up for a day job.
I had the pleasure of contributing to the event and of attending one of them - very good range of topics. If I had been able to take the day off I would have accessed more of the presentations in real time. Great coordination Drew!
Thank you, ProZ.com, for this wonderful, FREE even, that could be attended practically by anyone in or interested in language services. As far as I know, it is the ONLY one of its kind worldwide! That, in itself, is a wonderful offering for all of us in the profession. All presentations provide a state-of-the-art VISION and tools that may be applied immediately. This effort is really admirable. As a presenter and and attendee, I thank the opportunity of bringing my content to others and learning a lot from so many people! Thank you.
@David: then you don't lower your price when you get more time?

Also, I did that job through an agency, which doesn't help the negotiation process

@Manueal. Sure. You can always say "No". It's my opinion that they do not always find somebody to do something, although we might have that impression.

Some direct clients are a dream, especially when they do realise what an asset a good translation can be for them.

I can lower an initial fee, but only until certain point

I think that very often somebody designs a product, and thinks: We can get it sold at that price. Than they try to find somebody and want the price they are thinking of. If we say "no", then they just don't make the product. They look for something else. Maybe you don't notice that in Italy, but if you would look around in the Netherlands, you would notice very often that some products are not on the market here.

Some agencies are still mentioning the 'credit crunch' to keep our fees down...

@Manuela: True, "no" is not negotiating, but it's a lesson to the client.

I, as a client, alwasy get suspicious if somebody wants to lower a price. I'm always asking mysef: Hé, did he want to overcharge me?

Hello, I have a question - do you expect more money when the documents need a lot of editing and formating?
